Mass Lottery tickets on phone

If the world were perfect, lottery customers would be able to purchase tickets, scan them using their phone, and instantly see their winnings transferred to their bank account.

For the most part, that ideal world has arrived.

Remote ticket cashing has been introduced by the Massachusetts Lottery, allowing customers to conveniently claim prizes ranging from $601 to $5,000.

According to a press release, Massachusetts State Lottery Commission Chair Deborah B. Goldberg expressed enthusiasm for the introduction of remote ticket cashing transactions, highlighting its positive impact on customer convenience. She also emphasized the additional environmental benefits, as the new system eliminates the need for excessive driving and paper check production, consequently reducing carbon emissions.

Is there demand for remote claims in Mass Lottery universe?

The recent remote advancement by the Lottery goes beyond mere modernization as it fulfills a genuine requirement among Mass Lottery players.

In the autumn of 2020, the Lottery introduced a mobile application that enabled customers to conveniently scan their tickets using their smartphones. Although customers could determine if their ticket was a winner through the app, they were required to visit an authorized lottery retailer to redeem their prize.

The number of people who have signed up for the app and scanned tickets has exceeded 16,000 since its launch. Additionally, the total number of scanned tickets has surpassed 2.8 million. This implies that, on average, each user of the lottery app has scanned approximately 175 tickets.

Elaine Tellstone, a Blackstone resident, was the inaugural winner to claim a winning ticket through the app among the 16,000 users.

According to Tellstone’s statement in a lottery press release, he emphasized how effortless it was to scan his ticket and submit his claim, taking less than five minutes. In contrast, he mentioned that if he had chosen to claim his prize in person in Worcester, it would have consumed approximately two hours of his day, considering factors like traffic and the number of people in line.

How do you claim lottery winnings with your phone?

Through Apple’s App Store and Google Play, individuals have the opportunity to sign up for the app and create a Mass Lottery player account without any cost. Once registered, users gain access to various features such as checking winning numbers and current jackpots, watching Keno To Go and All Or Nothing To Go drawings, and scanning instant and draw games.

Customers have the option to have their prize of $601 to $5,000 from an instant or draw game directly deposited into their bank account. This convenient addition saves customers time spent on driving and provides a secure method for receiving their winnings.

Moreover, mobile redemptions provide added convenience. Typically, prizes exceeding $600 necessitate winners to personally visit an authorized lottery retailer or lottery office in order to collect their prize. This process requires the winner to present a valid photo ID and provide proof of their Social Security number.
