After a lengthy and challenging journey, the opening of MGM Springfield, Massachusetts’ inaugural resort casino, is just a few months away.
It has been seven years since Massachusetts legalized casino gambling, six years since MGM selected Springfield for a resort casino, and four years since the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) granted MGM Resorts the Region B (Western Massachusetts) casino license.
The MGM newsroom has been bustling with activity as the project nears completion. During a recent Massachusetts Gaming Commission meeting, numerous significant updates regarding the project were unveiled.
Save the date
During MGM Resorts’ presentation, not only were the identities of several restaurants and retail stores disclosed, but also the anticipated opening date of the casino was revealed.
Assuming everything proceeds as intended, MGM Springfield is set to commence operations on or prior to September 5, 2018.
Dining options take shape
MGM Springfield will have an abundance of dining options when it opens for business.
The property will boast:
- There must be a minimum of three restaurants where customers can sit and dine.
- Six food court eateries
- Three bars/cocktail lounges
- The obligatory Starbucks
Below is a brief overview of the dining options available at MGM Springfield.
Chandler Steak House
Chandler Steak House is an essential component of any casino experience, as it boasts a “Vegas-level cuisine” that includes a remarkable variety of aged cuts of meat and an extensive wine selection.
Cal Mare
Cal Mare is a refined Italian restaurant, helmed by Chef Michael Mina, offering a unique blend of New England influences and classic Italian dishes. Expect an array of delectable seafood choices alongside beloved local Italian favorites.
Tap Sports Bar
Tap Sports Bar is a slightly elevated choice compared to the food court, yet it remains more relaxed in comparison to Chandler Steak House or Cal Mare. As expected, the sports bar will serve classic pub food.
Additionally, within Tap, MGM Springfield will feature an arcade and bowling alley as part of their entertainment offerings. Furthermore, a Top Golf Swing Suite will be situated in a different area of the property.
South End Market
The food court at MGM Springfield offers a diverse range of food options, accompanied by comfortable cafeteria-style seating.
- Bill’s Diner Hearth Grill, Wicked Noodles, Wine & Cheese, Gelato & Espresso, and Jack’s Lobster Shack.
Bars and cocktail lounges
MGM Springfield offers a variety of three liquid meal options for those seeking such a dining experience.
- Commonwealth Cocktail Lounge
- Lobby Bar
- Knox Bar
Shopping
The dining options are beginning to form, yet many uncertainties remain regarding the tenants who will occupy the over 15,000 square feet of retail space dedicated by MGM Springfield.
There are only a few stores that have been announced, and the majority of the retail space is yet to be determined.
- Kringle Candle
- Essentials are the common gift shops and essential needs stores conveniently located near the lobbies of almost every MGM casino.
- Cal Mare retail
In the months ahead, MGM has announced its plan to reveal more retail partners.
The return of Indian Motorcycle
There was a new announcement regarding the opening of an Indian Motorcycle apparel store.
In 1901, Indian Motorcycle was founded in Springfield. As a tribute to the city’s rich history, MGM is set to launch an Indian Motorcycle apparel store.
Polaris currently owns the name Indian Motorcycles and continues to manufacture them, however, the Springfield factory ceased operations in 1953, marking an end to over 50 years of production.
Michael Mathis, president of MGM Springfield, stated in a press release that our collaboration with Indian Motorcycle strengthens the strong bond the renowned brand has with Springfield and pays tribute to the city’s rich industrial heritage. Mathis further emphasized that this establishment will play a vital role in the exceptional and unique experiences we are curating at MGM Springfield.
